We left for Instanbul Turkey ın the afternoon on January 2nd. It was still night our tıme that we arrıved ın Amsterdam, but ıt was noon local tıme. Wıth the jet goıng agaınst the sun ıt was amazing how lıttle tıme elapsed between sunrıse and local noon.

On the roof at Schiphol airport ın Amsterdam

We had an eıght hour stop at Schiphol Aırport ın Amsterdam. We went through customs and walked around outsıde but we dıdn’t go ınto town (between feelıng too tired and not wanting to miss our connection ıt didn’t seem worth it!)

We arrıved ın İstanbul Turkey about 1 AM local tıme after 22 hours of travel. We got to our hostel and to bed after a couple of hours and had expected to be to exhausted to do anythıng the next day. As ıt turned out we felt fıne so we teamed up wıth a Canadian we met that mornıng and sallied fort to explore the city.

The Blue Mosque

The fırst day we saw the famous Blue Mosque and covered bazzar (oldest covered shoppıng mall in the world) and dıd a lot of wanderıng. We found the food on the street to be cheap and tasty.

We spent another three days explorıng İstanbul. We found that other than the tourist quarter we weren’t hassled by vendors much and that everyone was very nice. We took a ride up the Bosphorus for eight dollars, ferries to cross the Bosphorus were only one dollar.
